My paintings portray landscapes hovering between human design and natural forces. I am interested in the role that humans have in shaping the natural world and the internal dissonance that arises from having this power.
I begin each piece by creating a collaged study. These studies outline a psychological space for the painting and inform the work as it is reinterpreted through layers of acrylic on paper. As I negotiate between the study and the way the paint settles on the paper, my process parallels the imagery in the paintings and relies on an active exchange between human and natural forces.
